I get that it’s a fairly non serious grading format, but docking points because it’s not going to have universal appeal is weird. It’s your own opinion, not everyone’s. Give it the 10 you know you want to give it. ;)

I always wonder how authentic it really is with Bo, since he clearly draws the line between fans and himself. He has also pointed out that everything he does on stage is an act and everything is staged and planned out to the gesture. So even when you get a peek into his inner world, like INSIDE, it also leaves you wondering if you really do know him or anything about him.
And it seems even he was reflecting on himself by having his old youtube videos projected at some parts.

I have some friends who were basically bragging about how they couldn't make it past 5 minutes of this and it's exactly as you say, because they expected pure comedy and wrote it off as pretentious right away. It's a shame because it really is amazing and gets better as it goes on (I felt his first songs were definitely the weakest).

If you are deeply familiar with The Wall album and movie and maybe read Saucerful of Secrets, I could draw a lot of parallels for you. Listen to "Welcome to the internet" and then listen to "The Trial"l from The Wall. The themes of alienation and isolation run throughout Inside and The Wall. I mean, do you don't remember the imagery of Bob Geldof in his underwear? The obvious symbolism being repeated viburnum. In the song "Goodbye" from Inside, not "Goodbye Cruel World" OR "Goodbye Blue Sky" from The Wall, mind you, but "Goodbye", he reintroduce has lyrics from various songs he had performed earlier. Just like Rodger Waters love to do. The Wall has "Mother" and inside has " FaceTiming with my Mom", in which Burnham shows obvious frustration with his mother and alludes to an almost nonexistent relationship with his father. Of course, in The Wall, Pink's father, ike Waters' died in the war and therefore was never part of their life. The Walk had "Young Lust" and Inside has "Sexting". The Wall had "One of My Turns" and Inside has "All Time Low" The Wall had " Comfortably Numb" and Inside has "That Funny Feeling". The movie The Wall of course had a series of vignettes in between the songs. Just like the Inside movie. This is all off the top of my head, but I could go on. I've thought about it since I first saw Inside. I mean The Wall is a seminal work. It is the gold standard of music addressing the themes that addresses. It's only natural that another artist, albeit it would have to be a gifted one, would be reminiscent of it when addressing the same themes.

I've watched all of his specials, but Inside is a standout, not necessarily for being funny, but for being genuine and raw. Welcome to the Internet, All Eyes on Me, and That Funny Feeling were standout songs for me.

I agree with everything ya said my guy beside it not being that funny. The white girl Instagram song where he literally calls out a litany of things all of us have seen before on there where people are pretending their lives are amazing was super funny. Especially him recreating all the shots. Also in 'facetime with mum tonight' with the line 'she says to say hi to dad and he says how ya doing bud? And I say not so bad and that's the deepest talk we've had" was so funny and relatable to me and probably a lot of other dudes. Also, the pirate map joke was amazing cuz like yeah why has every pirate map I've ever seen in media look like shit?? You're a pirate dude that's your thing! Also, the line in sexting where he goes "My phone's flash is my only light, and The flash makes my dick look frightened. I chicken out and send a picture of my face instead Because my dick looks like the baby from Eraserhead" might've been the hardest I've laughed all year. And then I had to go and re-look up the baby from Eraserhead and laughed as hard again. hahaha
