It is usually wrong or a wrong way of thinking of something cringy and now since i noticed it i cant listen every time it talks. Real shame though since its a great podcast but his personality just ruins it. to be honest, the best we can do for the environment besides adopting impossible burger and the like, is changing the energy production that is being used. For me it's the way animals for meat are treated. I have never had an issue with hunting for food, or even well raised and cared for animals for slaughter. However, people don't tend to think of the ramifications of just everyone not eating meat, like do you think they will all just go home to their planet? No, an overly abundant cow population in an area without enough things to kill them is going to destroy the land. There are parts where people have to hunt deer because the population gets too big and becomes a hazard, or they just start starving to death.
People that think poor treatment for animals is okay are just an ignorant as people that think no one should eat meat.

@Jas Marine "...potential unknown factors when it comes to completely shifting the agriculture industry and potential impact on the environment..." I am not saying that we know everything BUT there has been very extensive research on this topic and going off of the research we have robust evidence that shifting the agricultural industry, specifically from animal agriculture, will benefit us far more than to not shift the industry. The UN Climate Change Report, for example refers to different studies and research backing this on multiple occasions throughout the chapters stating that shifting the agriculture industry will also help mitigate deforestation, land degradation, desertification, and others that are big side effects of animal agriculture. They also just straight up bring diet into the picture, "...a previous systematic review of the literature on environmental impacts associated with consumption of food and concluded that higher consumption of animal-based foods was associated with higher estimated environmental impacts, whereas the increased consumption of plant-based foods was associated with estimated lower environmental impact. Assessment of individual foods within these broader categories showed that meat - sometimes specified as ruminant meat was consistently identified as the single food with the greatest impact on the environment, most often in terms of GHG emissions and/or land use per unit commodity." - ch. 5.4.6 pg. 1 Sorry for making it so drastically long.

    • Jas Marine

      Jas Marine

      18 dögum síðan

@Scary Jerry of Merry KerrieMay’s Prairie you say that the land isn't required, but one of the main ingredients used to make impossible is soy. Soy bean plantations are rapidly growing to take on ever increasing demand for products containing it, which is causing mass deforestation in places like the Amazon and ruining the lives of subsistence farmers there too. Savannah is likewise being destroyed to make room for this. The reason animal farming takes up so much land is because they are rotated from spot to spot to graze, which reduces the strain on each area. Grazing is also often done on fields that are left unplanted and helps to improve the soil quality. This has been a technique used for over a thousand years at this point, and maintains a good balance and reduces soil erosion. Meat an dairy are, as all things, healthy in moderation. While impossible has no cholesterol and less saturated fat it also has a far greater sodium and carbohydrate content than beef, so when it comes to nutrition it's swing and roundabouts ya know?

Um. I guess this is news to you but soy (which is in impossible meat) has *phyto-estrogen* which is not the same as estrogen in the sense that it is nowhere near as potent as the estrogen in dairy. That very same phyto-estrogen is in beer which most people drink anyway and don't grow breasts. Male humans never grew breasts eating soy and probably won't ever unless one is VERY sensitive to the phyto-estrogen AND consume an incomprehensible amount at the same time. Just look at Japan or other parts of Asia. They consume large portions of soy and they have absolutely no problems with it feminising men. I think you are relying to much on false information that was flying around when the impossible whopper was released. Certain people including entire industries felt threatened by the success of a vegan burger in a fast food chain in America so they attempted to halt Impossible's success by causing fear which didn't really even pan out in their favor as it still remains a popular choice.

There was at least one high-production level channel that won a streamy, though a minor category: Contrapoints won best commentary channel. A lot of people here may not like her content, but it’s undeniably high-effort and high-quality material.

My favorite Dharman video was when the teacher thought the black kid was doing drugs. Turns out the teacher was racist, and the kids dad left! So it wasnt the first racist trope, but the second.

How nieve do you have to be to not know that prisoners can kill other inmates while they are in prison. It's a pretty common thing... just because a murder is in prison, doesn't mean that they can't still kill. Unless they are deemed so dangerous that they have to be in solitary confinement for theor entire sentence. But that is extremely rare.

Jackson is such a zoomer but Charlie and Andrew are super ignorant too. 'Oh well' too people losing jobs en masse is why we keep ending up in bad situations. Jackson just didn't have to live through the early vegan stage when they pretended a bland tofu block was edible food.

That whole conversation was pretty ignorant and naive tbh. We just going to act like millions of cows, pigs, chickens won't be killed off if we just get rid of meat? Where do you think all of those animals are going to go? Farmers aren't going to just pay the expense to house and feed them if they're not making any income, lmao. There's way too many of them to just set free, they will ruin ecosystems due to mass overpopulation, and they're domesticated animals so a large majority of them won't survive in the wild. It's not as simple as "no meat = no dead animals"
